Bailey-Bloch Congenital Myopathy in Brazilian Patients: A Very Rare Myopathy with Malignant Hyperthermia Susceptibility

چکیده
Background: Congenital myopathy-13 (CMYP13), also known as Bailey-Bloch congenital myopathy and Native American (NAM), is a condition caused by biallelic missense pathogenic variants in STAC3, which encodes an important protein necessary for the excitation-relaxation coupling machinery muscle. Patients with STAC3 often present weakness arthrogryposis, cleft palate, ptosis, myopathic facies, short stature, kyphoscoliosis, susceptibility to malignant hyperthermia provoked anesthesia. We two unrelated cases of descendants non-consanguineous parents, were investigated delayed psychomotor development generalized weakness. To best our knowledge, these are first descriptions CMYP13 Brazil. In both patients, we found previously described variant p.Trp284Ser homozygosity. Conclusion: seek highlight need screening patients expressing typical phenotype disease even absence Lumbee ancestry, raise awareness possible complications like myopathy.

Exome analysis identifies Brody myopathy in a family diagnosed with malignant hyperthermia susceptibility
Whole exome sequencing (WES) was used to determine the primary cause of muscle disorder in a family diagnosed with a mild, undetermined myopathy and malignant hyperthermia (MH) susceptibility (MHS). WES revealed the compound heterozygous mutations, p.Ile235Asn and p.Glu982Lys, in ATP2A1, encoding the sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum Ca(2+) ATPase type 1 (SERCA1), a calcium pump, expressed in fast-t...
متن کاملThe Risk of Malignant Hyperthermia in Children With Suspected Myopathy
Despite continuing controversy, it is widely assumed that children with known or suspected myopathies are at increased risk for malignant hyperthermia (MH) (1). Previous reports have suggested a relationship between MH risk and a variety of neuromuscular disorders including Duchenne type muscular dystrophy (DMD), osteogenesis imperfecta, myotonia congenita, the Schwartz-Jampel syndrome, and oth...

INTRODUCTION Congenital myopathies (CM) often affect contractile proteins of the sarcomere, which could render patients susceptible to exercise-induced muscle damage. We investigated if exercise is safe and beneficial in patients with CM. METHODS Patients exercised on a stationary bike for 30 minutes, three times weekly, for 10 weeks at 70% of their maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). Creatine ki...
متن کاملChronic myopathy in a patient suspected of carrying two malignant hyperthermia susceptibility (MHS) mutations.
Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a pharmacogenetic myopathy triggered by a variety of anaesthetic agents and muscle relaxants. In humans, susceptibility to MH is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait, and susceptible patients do not show a clinically relevant myopathy unless having suffered from a MH crisis. Homozygosity for the MHS trait is thought to be an uncommon finding, and so far only a...
